GREG HUNT: Well our approach is very simple. We will make the savings by getting rid of things such as the $5.5 billion of brown coal generator subsidies.
Does that mean that AGL and others lose the incentive to bolt on coal drying modules to get through the next decade or so while renewables continue to grow and DICE is developed to support them, and then the old boilers are phased out as per Fed Gov Energy White Paper?
How long are the big old boilers viable for without the subsidies even without a carbon tax. They will still be only running at around 60% capacity due to the current penetration of renewables.
