It was only late Jan when the ASX 200 rose 5% in one day (the most since oct 1997). In Jan, it gained 13% in 3 days. We have short memories.
Further data will put the light back underneath the pan again and all of a sudden the heat will be turned up and away we go. I believe the US has experienced the worst - the US retail sales really was extrememly heartening.
If they are in recession ... perhaps it's not as steep or they're coming out of it (and) it looks as if they may be avoiding any panic.
NB. U.S. stocks rose overnight after a surprise gain in January retail sales suggested consumer spending in the U.S. was holding up.
