I've been doing some more reading and have come to some conclusions which are purely my own speculation. I believe there is a bit of a hint in the announcement where it states that over the past 24hrs there was a slow increase in pressure. Apparently that is quite normal in a large reservoir to fairly quickly build pressure to a certain point,say between 80 & 90% of final maximum pressure, but the last build up to the final figure can take much much longer as the build up spreads filling the last reaches of the containment. Again all just my opinion but it makes sense to me and helps settle my nerves.
