"Guns don't kill people. People kill people!"

Yes. A gun doesn't levitate of it's own accord and kill people. But, people with guns, especially semi-automatic, and a cache envious of the army, kill more people indiscriminately than people holding, say, an axe.

Take the latest killing in New Mexico. The 15 yrs old could've killed his family easily with any weapon more accessible than a gun. BUT, the boy's desire to wanting to shoot up a public place for the heck of it and dying in a shoot out with enforcement officers is DIRECTLY related to his accessibility to weapons, and in particular, the effectiveness of those weapons (calibre and speed of expelling the ammunition).

One does not kill a family with an axe and then decide to load up with a gym bag full of axes and go on a public massacre. The ease of throwing in a cache of guns and rifles and stopping by Wal Mart if you're low on ammo, DOES, entice one to kill their family and then shoot up innocent people.

To those arguing the 2 Amendment. The following is an excellent article. The right to bear arms against a 'tyrannical government' is a crock of delusional, misinterpreted rubbish.

"In response to these arguments, supporters of the prevailing Second Amendment interpretation maintain that any right to bear arms should be secondary to concerns for public safety. They also point out that other provisions in the Constitution grant power to Congress to quell insurrections, thus contradicting the insurrection theory. Lastly, they argue that the Constitution should be interpreted in accordance with a changing society and that the destructive capability of semiautomatic and automatic firearms was not envisioned by the Framers."
