Nine palliative care specialist positions have been announced for regional and rural New South Wales.
A state government investment of more than $3 million will see the positions funded to improve patient care and relieve some of the pressure on GPs.
Tamworth, in the state's north west, is one of the winners and will soon see a full-time specialist doctor based at the regional city's hospital.
Long-time advocate Bryan Singh is vice president of a community group called Friends of Nioka, which supports the acute care unit.
It meets with Hunter New England Health every two months and a palliative care doctor has been the number-one priority for at least eight years. ....."
