It seems I was wrong in my guess that Acadia has received funding from Veteran Affairs to run larger trials of Nuplazid in PTSD-associated insomnia. Nonetheless, Acadia did receive VA funding for its pilot trial and could still apply for sponsorship of further trials.
This US$330m 5 year contract is not related to R & D; it is a Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contract.
VA operates the largest integrated direct health care delivery system in the United States. Unlike Medicare, it doesn’t reimburse beneficiaries for their medical costs; it provides care directly to veterans largely in VA clinics and hospitals. It acquires its pharmaceutical supplies via the FSS.
VA manages over 1,700 contracts and approximately $16 billion in annual sales. VA Schedules are indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity type contracts awarded to pre-approved vendors using a competitive process.
