ACCC Report

The below news report is paywalled but here is a few excerpts all in all the report basically says what a lot of people were already expecting - gas prices are rising due to supply side constraints.  The article talks about ACCC angling for regulation of pipeline pricing as a part solution to curtail the possibility of pipeline operators gouging gas suppliers but little else in the way of solutions.

"As ACCC chairman Rod Sims indicated in a speech to the Australian Domestic Gas Outlook conference in Sydney today, there is something perverse about an environment where international oil and gas prices have plummeted but domestic gas prices have been rising."

"The massive new source of demand the LNG plants represent should have triggered a supply-side response, particularly when oil and LNG prices were at stratospheric levels.  An initial response — a big increase in exploration for unconventional gas outside Queensland and South Australia — has been curtailed, however, by opposition from communities and environmental activists that has led to state-directed moratoria on unconventional gas development in NSW and Victoria."
