The silicon smelter at Kemerton W.A. uses 40mw of power 24/7 just to make the silicon metal.
The process also requires tonnes of jarrah trees reduced to carbon in retorts before smelting, and thats before its shipped off to China.
So yes not without sins.
Nuclear the best baseload option, going to be a long hard battle getting that off the ground though.
