    The funny part about the people like Acorn is they would also highlight the same sections as you.

    But they forget.

    The people who own the infrastructure have exactly zero obligation to sell energy for the price the consumer wants.

    And so much expensive infrastructure is needed (and so much land is needed too) it's not like someone else can just build it and compete.

    "Our local power station charges 50 cents per kw/h"
    So build your own??? Hahahahahhaahaha yeah. K.

    If the government tries to regulate the price what's gonna happen?
    You gotta replace all of your generation equipment every 10-15 years, do you think someone with billions of dollars got that money by not being able to make basic economic calculations based on fixed prices? They'll just run it into the ground while charging max allowable price.

    Oh the government will force them to rebuild the failing infrastructure? Sure, how?

    So.. price competition removed.. demand limited by weather... you don't need to be an economist or even a credentialed expert on human behaviour to know what's gonna happen.
