Basically the Clean Energy Finance Corporation is providing $20m to fund 500 new EVs to Australia's largest vehicle subscription provider for ridesahre services Splend.
Rideshare vehicles drive far longer distances than the average commuter, which makes the economics compared to an ICE car far more compelling.
Also, $20m for 500 vehicles suggests an average price of $40,000, which illustrates how EV prices have come down and continue to do so.
Also, with rideshare vehicles driving 50,000km to 60,000km compared to 11,000km for an average commuter, that means the 500 EVs is actually effectively taking 2,500 ICE cars off the streets - that is sure to lead to lower respiratory disease and cancer.
Some of these 500 vehicles will also soon become available to the second hand EV market, leading to an even more rapid uptake of EVs in Australia, which otherwise is lagging the rest of the developed world in EV adoption.
In addition, the many many customers of the Splend rideshare service (CEFC mention a figure of an average 400 rides per month per vehicle) will also get to experience what it is like to drive in an EV.
