With adequate roof-top solar and an EV, there will be no CO₂ generated (ignoring the CO₂ use to produced the solar panels and the EV).

Let's sell the EV and buy an ICE vehicle. Now, all the electricity generated from the solar panels can be put into the grid, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by "one car's worth". The ICE will produces CO₂ emission by "one's cars worth". Net result is no CO₂ generation.

Both scenarios produce the same amount of CO₂.
