‘Confrontreality’: Albanese govt’s renewables plan ‘doesn’t really stack up’ (msn.com)
Sky News host James Morrow says PeterDutton’s push for nuclear is forcing the Albanese government to “confront thereality” of its renewables promise which “doesn’t really stack up”.
Oppositionleader Peter Dutton has flagged higher-paying jobs and energy subsidies forcoal-fired power stations which move to nuclear energy.
Sky News Australia understands Dutton could release part of hisparty’s nuclear energy plan within weeks after flagging more potential sitesalong the east coast.
“Oneof the things that people in the industry have told me, though, is that if youwere to build a nuclear power plant … an awful lot of what goes into a nuclearreactor [is the] same stuff that happens at a coal-fired power plant or a gasturbine,” Mr Morrow told Sky News host Steve Price.
“It’s just something that heats up, boils water, steam comesout, it spins a turbine.
“Ijust think that the interesting thing about Peter Dutton pushing the nucleardebate … [is] the fact that it is forcing Labor to confront the reality of itspromise which … doesn’t really stack up.”
