You buy a PV panel and you get to use it for over 20 years.
You buy a litre of FF and it is gone before you've driven 20km.
The first seems easier to me than the second.
I don't care what other countries have done. You can be a follower all your life if you want - and that probably goes a lot of the way to explaining why you think a $10,000 battery would financially cripple you - but some of us are interested in doing new things.
A new build of PV + battery is cheaper now than a new build of any other power generation tech in just about every situation.
The only reason it will take a few decades to transition is because of the efficiency of *existing* assets, and the scale of the buildout required, not due to any shortfall of technology.
