I SAW THE DEATH OF NATUREBy Save Scotland's Countryside.I saw the death of nature,Flashing in the sky. Then a bird dropped down before me.It gave no song or cry.Its feathers floated roundabout.Like devils in the wind-The robot machines seemed to shout“Apocalypse, begin!”I used to wander through the countryIn a rapture, in a daze,In nature’s glory filled with beauty,The joy would rush in waves.A smile was stretched out on my face,As I sauntered through the hills.I felt connected, and at peace. And time itself stood still. But there’s a screaming in the ocean now.And that flashing in the sky. There are bodies built up on the beach. And this bird that will not fly.I see the death of nature.I can feel the death of us.I hear the death of poetry.Coming to all of us.Our land used to be sacred. Now it’s turning to a grave.Concrete, metals blast the EarthAnd they say - “They want it saved.”I saw the death of nature,Flashing in the sky.But the rich keep getting richer,And the spirit goes to die.
