There has been an enormous amount of work done on energy storage behind the scenes over the last decade .
All kinds of stationary storage that we are only seeing come to the market now. Sand, gravity, compressed air , graphite, flow batteries etc .
Things like sand batteries for heat storage . ldeal for things like district heating . Very cheap. Very sustainable .
Then there's high temperature heat storage for industry . Fantastic energy sinks for the duck curve and fantastic flexible support for smelters etc . And cheaper than fossil fuel.
Now that solar in particular has got very cheap and the fact that the world is embracing energy storage as a proven strategy, we are about to see a boom in all forms of energy storage that hasn't really been talked about previously . All the focus has been on lithium. The producers of storage such as Tesla can't keep up with demand .
We are about to see much , cheaper much bigger batteries enter the system over the next two years . l think it will be a pivotal moment in the transition.
