    UK energy firm tells customers to eat porridge or buy socks made of merino wool
    • The firm also suggests customers should do a "few star jumps" and "have a cuddle with pets or loved one" to keep cosy during the winter months (The Telegraph)
    • The gas price crisis is expected to raise the average household bill by 56$ to over £2,000pa in April.
    • The advice suggests UK energy policy offers no real near-term solution to the crisis and indicates that higher energy bills are here to stay.
    • The strike price for power from the new Hinkley Point C nuclear plant was set with EDF at £92/MWh from when the reactor is finished in 2023-2025.
    • Wind power was selling last year for around £40/MWh but this may be is proving to be less reliable than first thought with wind speeds across Europe said to be lower than estimated.
    • There is very little grid-scale battery backup leaving the nation to rely on gas power to top up its generation capacity following the destruction of the coal fired power generators.
