I am not a HotCopper moderator. People remain free to debate climate change on other threads. indeed I cannot prevent anyone from debating it on this thread. Over recent years, I have from time to time engaged in discussions about global warming.

I just happen to have grown tired of debating AGW when it becomes a distraction to discussing topics I am really interested in. Hence I started a thread, where from the outset I made it clear that - on this particular thread and in the context of this particular topic - I do not wish to waste my and preferably other people's time by going over old ground.

Believe it or not, there was a time when I looked into each and every argument thrown up in the AGW debate. From polar bears to cyclones, rising pacific islands to a new force of nature that demonstrated a better link between global warming and the planetary motion of a number of planets (I believe the exact number was six, though I do not recall the exact plates involved) than any scientific model for global warming at the time. I spent my time going from the opinion pieces to the source material and scientific papers, to understand the context of what was said in the opinion piece. On each and every occasion I found the climate change denial to be based on selective quotes, distortions or plain misrepresentations.

Anyway, I have found that by ignoring those who insist on debating the underlying assumption of this thread, I have not suffered a great loss. I actually found the experience surprisingly refreshing (and perhaps one that is under appreciated here on HotCopper) and time saving, as depending on which poster you place on ignore, you don't have to delve into some of the most inane and plain stupid arguments over and over and over again.

So Johilo, I am most interested in your insights and those of your friends that you wish to share. However, if you want to discuss the pros and cons of AGW, I suggest you do it elsewhere, as I have zero appetite to do so on this thread.

By your courteous response and explanation of your reasoning I admit that my reply (after coming on to the thread without reading the start of it some 500 posts prior) elicited my response without full context.

I too have insufficient time to outline considered pros and cons of the debate, potentially locking horns with the ad hominem brigade and will withdraw from this thread and leave it to those more zealous to engage.

I have engaged in discussions often on this subject (off forum) and found concept luvvies often vehemently posit their stance without much, if any understanding of fundamental elements of the subject and
like you feeling that of wasted short time.

It appears you are more convinced than me and I shall respectfully leave you free to engage with your like minded posters.
