OMG !!!
Gee, you really are digging a stupid hole, aren't you ?
You've just tripped yourself up. You might be a quality challenger for Sailorgirl's foot in mouth award actually..
Your own post supplies the answer.
Hornsdale battery ( which isn't there for straight up grid backup like you suggest btw ) is 150mw.
SA average demand is around 2500mw.
So, how would you expect that one battery be able to supply the whole state given that it's capacity is about 6% of the SA's daily demand ?
If you wanted to power the state for a day from a big battery because , for some very strange reason, there was no power from wind, solar, gas, the interconnectors etc, you would clearly need a much bigger and suitably sized battery of around the 2500mw size.
In reality, SA won't need a battery that big but it will need a much larger battery in order to manage peaks, supply grid services and the odd short term blackout. Batteries are being designed more around the 4 hour capacity for their particular area , not for the whole state.
It is hilarious that I actually have to point out the Hornsdale battery simply isn't large enough for the job. It isn't that it is failing. Batteries aren't failing as you falsely claim. It turns that the Hornsdale battery has exceeded expectations massively spurring a flurry of battery construction across the country and around the world.
