The Hazer Commercial Demonstration Project will now be commissioned byits partner Primero Group.
It is designed to prove up the company's tech which converts waste gasand iron ore to hydrogen and graphite.
The plant uses methane pyrolysis to make its hydrogen and with theaddition of iron ore, graphite is a byproduct that makes the process carbon neutral, with no need for carbon capture and storage.
It plans a ‘cold' reactor first that will use a temporary carbon steelreactor so it can trial
gas conditioning, solids handling, process control, safety and utilitiessystems.
This phase will also deliver initial process data to de-risk thestart-up of the second phase, the hot commissioning and full operation of theCDP, it said.
The hot-wall reactor build is progressing in China with finalfabrication and fit out work due next quarter and installation thefollowing.
The full operation of the project will demonstrate the safe continuousproduction of low-emission hydrogen and graphite, it said. It has not named agraphite offtake customer yet.
"We are delighted to have reached this important milestone. I wouldlike to recognise the hard work of Mark Edwards, Hazer's Chief OperatingOfficer, and all the project team to realise this significantachievement," CEP Geoff Ward said.
