Watch out for itinerents who come up to you, bend down to the ground and "pick up" a gold-looking wedding ring and asking you if you had dropped it. When you say "No" they insist you keep it and then ask for money as an aside. It happened twice to us in the space of 5 minutes near the Seine. We didn't fall for it. I later found such a ring on the bank of the Seine and brought it back to Oz. It was, of course, brass.
