AUSTRALIA Post will pay about $1 million a year to lease a Charter Hall warehouse in Sydney's suburbs as it ramps up its distribution operations for online shopping orders. The lease at 56 Anzac Street, Chullora, covers 9600sq m of space in one building. Charter Hall's Anzac Avenue property includes two warehouses together valued at close to $19m. The property will house the government-owned company's Future Ready unit, which was established to capitalise on rising deliveries from online businesses. Australia Post's rent is understood to be more than $100 per square metre. The deal was brokered by Andrew Mahar of Jones Lang Lasalle and Derek Erwin and Tim Knapp of Knight Frank. The Chullora location, 15km west of the Sydney CBD, allows for up to six specified delivery times within metropolitan Sydney each business day. Last year, local online retailer OzSale leased a 17,105sq m warehouse at Smithfield for a five-year term. There is also speculation that US e-tailing giant Amazon will take up 40,000sq m in Sydney as part of its expansion into Australia
