Trials for ACE in the UK are expected to run through until April 2025 (this has been mentioned numerous times), similar to the timelines we've seen in other regions like Devon and Cornwall. Typically trials like these need time to gather data and demonstrate their effectiveness before transitioning into formal contracts. This is pretty standard for this type of technology and for government entities that need to justify the spend.
In saying that, while we're technically waiting until April for the trials to wrap up in UK, contracts can be signed before then (i.e. Devon and Cornwall shifted from trial to contract before the end of the trial period). A key indicator of a potential contract is when one of the police forces moves from trialing the tech to actively prosecuting offenses using the ACE systems. This is because prosecuting means they're already using the system effectively and basically they are much more likely to adopt this technology long term (they've crossed a critical threshold in the adoption process). 10 out of 19 police forces trialing it are currently prosecuting - I think that says it all. Likewise, success of early adopters like Devon and Cornwall is a very good indicator for other regions i.e. others more likely to follow suit, this is a fact with government contracts.
Last thing - there are still around 12 police forces that haven't trialed yet at all, which leaves more room for expansion. It is only a matter of time that they join on the bandwagon (if 19 others already are) and that will likely push the sp in itself.
No need to stress too much about contracts not being announced yet. When it comes to government deals, especially with new tech it takes time. Trials and evaluations need to happen first before contracts are finalised, it’s just part of the process. It's pretty ovbious the sentiment is all for the cameras (i read articles daily mentioning how many people are breaking the law), they just have to do their due diligence for the sake of appearances and so they can justify it. And to top it off, there are still around 12 police forces that haven't trialed yet at all, which leaves even more room for expansion. It is only a matter of time that they join on the bandwagon of the other 19.
