I believe that BEN_5000 is one of the aces being progressed by Genentech. Originally - last week - I assumed that BEN_5000 would emulate the delivery system of the bispecific antibody engineered by Genentech which created a Big Splash around the world in May 2011 with headlines like Genentech Scientists Blaze a Trail into the Brain for Antibodies.

Just to recap;
"A bispecific molecule was created using the two arms of the Y-shaped antibody to combine both the delivery and the therapeutic properties. One arm binds to the transferrin receptor to support transport of the antibody across the blood-brain barrier, albeit with low affinity - so the antibody is released from the receptor into the brain. The other arm is designed to bind with high affinity to the enzyme beta-secretase (BACE1) to target Alzheimer's disease," Roche investor update.

Genentech already have a delivery system for crossing the BBB so their scientists were looking for something entirely different. BEN_5000 is an Ace because not only does it cross the BBB but it has been validated to carry its therapeutic cargo into the target cells. In fact far from the antibody cargo binding 'loosely' to BEN_5000, it holds on like grim death for the journey through the BBB and into the toxic target cell. Supposition for sure but potentially the basis for an even Bigger Splash than Genentech's original announcement. In fact it could even create waves.
