If anyone wants a lesson on how influential the press and greens can be with this sort of thing go have a look at MTN between 2008 and 2011.
In brief they buried some plastic bags with rock chips from drilling in them in an environmentally sensitive region. Same stuff that came out of the ground went back in but in plastic bags.
The press went to town on them with headlines: "Cowboy company dumps radioactive wastes in sanctuary".
Cut a long story short the government took their license away and banned all exploration and mining in the region.
