"Record development of new solar and wind power last year failed to put a dent in the world’s reliance on planet-warming fossil fuels.
Oil, gas and coal together accounted for almost 82 per cent of global primary energy consumption last year, barely down on the previous year, according to the Energy Institute’s Statistical Review of World Energy.
Solar accounted for a mere 2.1 per cent and wind 3.3 per cent of total global energy usage, which includes not only power generation but also energy used in transport, heating and other applications. In total, renewables including hydro accounted for about 14 per cent of global energy consumption..."
