The final results from the ACT election are in, confirming single Greens member Shane Rattenbury will hold the balance of power in the ACT for the next four years.

It has taken a week to count all the votes in the ACT's closest ever poll.

Voters have delivered a hung parliament, with ACT Labor and the Canberra Liberals securing eight seats each, and the Greens one.

The Greens were devastated in the election, losing three of the four members they had in the previous Legislative Assembly.

Amanda Bresnan has lost her Brindabella seat, while Caroline Le Couteur was ousted in Molonglo and Meredith Hunter missed out in Ginninderra.

Labor MLA Simon Corbell and Liberals MLA Steve Doszpot have retained their seats.

There will be three new faces in the Assembly - the Liberals' Andrew Wall and Giulia Jones, and Labor's Yvette Berry.

It will be a return to the Assembly for Labor's Mick Gentleman, who served as an MLA from 2004 to 2008.

It is now up to Mr Rattenbury to decide who governs.

Mr Rattenbury is expected to back Labor, headed by Chief Minister Katy Gallagher, to form government.

But there will be a few days of negotiations with both parties before Canberrans know who will take power.
