    according to the best alcohol and other drug specialists the only way to safely manage drug abuse is to legalise, regulate supply and tax to cover the cost of rehabs. removing drug supply from criminal gangs is a key step in safer drug use. this is the lesson from nations who've legalised.

    throughout history drugs have always been abused by some. remember the days of 6 o'clock swill when pubs shut at 6pm? there would be blokes collapsed in laneways all over ever suburb.

    prohibition or ever tighter restrictions has only ever resulted in worse harms.

    its not the "junkie vote" as most who are intoxicated are not even aware of elections. and those in pubs are generally irrational, reactionary and unstable - hence the primary driver of domestic violence is alcohol.

    that pic is horrifying but a reminder of the 6 o'clock swill days. drug testing should be available in every night club and more so at live music events. tolerance of drug use is sensible as it enables people who become dependent to access health services more easily. otherwise they remain hidden and fear exposure.
