Power generated is generally reserved for each state’s needs. A good example was the blackout in Victoria last summer when 220,000 homes went without power despite the Vic Energy Minister telling (lying to ) Victorians that they had sufficient reserve power; why wasn’t more power transmitted in from NSW or SA or Tas?
There will be blackouts in Victoria this coming summer even with industry being paid to shut down production (an act of economic vandalism). There is not enough baseload power, there is not enough peaking power and renewables drop off after 5pm just when the air conditioners get turned on.
The Andrews Labor government is an economic vandal in the cause of saving the planet, meanwhile the elderly and infirm are put at significant risk of dying through heat related events.
Pensioners can not afford to turn on air conditioners in summer and heating in winter. My Latest gas bill received last week is double last year but my consumption is on up just 5% and I am on the cheapest plan which I have benchmarked on the government comparison website. There is nothing I can do other than turn my heater off. I have good insulation, double glazed windows, heavy internal blinds and zoned heating.
The Andrews Labor government forced the closure of Hazelwood, Yallourn is next and the talk in the valley is that Loy Yang A will Probably be shut well ahead of its scheduled closure in 2030.
If Liddell shuts in 2023 where will NSW and/or Victoria get reserve baseload power for summer when there is some sort of breakdown without crippling industry and killing jobs?
Andrews is trying to kill coal, Labor announced today a new target of 50% and he still refuses to allow for conventional onshore gas exploration. Andrews is also restricting by about 50% access to the Vic solar subsidy scheme. Andrews is running out of money and everybody knows it.
When Victoria runs out of power and people die there will be a massive public backlash, its a shame people have to die to stop this madness of a lack of planning the transition to renewables. In my view it is culpable and Labor will have blood on its hands.
