I made it a priority to walk through a couple of Focus stores, including one in the Southbank DFO complex in Melbourne, which is adjacent to a Nick Scali store and has access to a bustling precinct fed by the well-heeled attendees at the Convention Centre and guests at the numerous 4 and 5 star hotels thatt have sprung up.

I was pleased to see the range and the colour scheme more pleasing to my eye and wallet, if I was in the market for furniture (which I am not, we are downsizing and throwing away a lot of surplus furniture)

Could well be confirmation bias but I reflect that in retail, taste and fashion sense and store presentation are key if difficult to actually define.

The positioning at the Focus stores was basic, with minimal wall furniture, whereas in the Nick Scali store the decor of the store itself was overpowering the furniture, to my eye. I got the sense that the typical price point is 80% of the equivalent product at Nick Scali, whereas the appearance of qualityof the actual pieces was about equal, albeit without the stunningly dressed Italian models demonstrating the product.
