I think a lot of this comes down to marketing. Innovation needs to be sold.
I totally agree a foot in the door during the height of the pandemic would've given us great inroads against the monopoly big labs have on diagnostics. However, until you can develop a lateral flow test that can quantify fluorescent particles and upload a result into a database via a smartphone then a purpose built reader is an obvious solution. It allows for greater accuracy than a visually read test, and allows for streamlined data collection. You just need to sell these points.
Had Eugeni been marketed as say Eugeni MiniLab, then perhaps the whole concept of a reader would become more obvious? I still feel the focus should be less on comparisons to cheap rapid tests, and more on competing against lab-based diagnostics. Especially considering the suite of tests planned and currently in development. Let's see how this new management can sell the concept.
