Dear Canberra,
The news cycle is quick,
attention spans short,
They will knife you,
the moment you get a bad report.

How did we get here,
how’s it come to this,
Those meant to serve us,
are taking the piss.

A few bad polls,
seem all it takes today,
To dispose of another leader,
to the public’s dismay.

From all sides we see it,
again and again,
So don’t insinuate your better,
just stop the mayhem.

The public elects you,
but you don’t seem to care,
The moment it gets tough,
you don’t want to play fair.

Respect those in Canberra,
I had taught to me,
But respect should be earned,
never taken for free.

The votes that we cast,
are tossed in the bin,
All so they can secure,
their next election win.

They fine us for not,
showing up to Election Day,
Then cast out those elected,
after we have our say.

The terms are too short,
the cost of loss is too high,
Those we elect so self indulged,
it could make us cry.

There are real issues to address,
and policy to make,
But too many of you are,
pretending or just fake.

It seems these days Canberra,
has become but a joke,
They don’t care for,
us ordinary folk.

Self interest is held,
above all the matters,
The system is broken,
it’s been left in tatters.

We want a great leader,
someone to stand tall,
But we know behind the scenes,
someone’s plotting their fall.

So who do we vote for,
none of them seem to care,
Because tomorrow they will knife them,
to take over their chair.

Little something I wrote a few years back when Rudd/Gillard/Turnbull/Abbott/Morrison were playing musical chairs…..looking like it might nearly be time to dust this one off again, hope you got a laugh from it.
