Alere have the market leader position BUT even though they can now pick up HIV after day 12, rather than after day 20, they still want to improve for an even higher sensitivity.

Imagine if they could pick up all 8 of these, rather than just the 2...... game over for their competitors and the labs............ makes you understand why POC will be an expanding market, while the labs will shrink.

Alere Determine™ HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo has demonstrated an ability to detect some of the earliest infections in a recent study conducted in Malawi, Africa14. Of the eight acute infections identified by high sensitivity p24 ELISA and RNA testing, Alere Determine™ HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo test was able to detect two of these infections, an achievement not possible in other rapid antibody tests.


The video also mentioned that they have more capacity "But at the moment not needed", well if they can beat the others on price (with reduced COGS due to less antibody/antigen needed in their combo tests provided they use MIXNGO)and sensitivity, then they might have to ramp up that capacity.

When you really think about this, and then add in their other tests................ it is mind boggling really.

All ADO have to do is create a 'bespoke' MIXNGO for each of Aleres products and away they go.... sit back 'clip the ticket' as ds says and work on the hardest problems, like what to do with all the free cash.
