This is a smart grid utilizing power points coupled to sensors over an IP network. This doesn't create smart IOT devices, but aggregates power point/sensors data for energy management/user data.
Imagine your power point as the hub, connected to sensors operating on an IP fabric a step up from D-Link wifi smart plugs. Highly scalable and dependent on sensors.
What you would like to see is smart grid solutions with advanced metering infrastructure communicating with true IOT devices, utilizing custom software on the IPV6 networking and routing. Now if two companies had the skill set to undertake that, well that could prove to be a game changer........
