so you want connect all the 'things' in your home with your mobile phone acting as the IoT gateway?
How about this scenario -
You go to work, and want to turn the a/c on when you leave so the house is cool when you get home.
You arrive home 30 minutes later to walk into 40 degrees, and yell at your aircon "why the hell didn't you start", to which your aircon replies "Because I had no idea you wanted me to, since you took your bloody phone with you, and I had no internet connection because that was the IoT gateway!"
