You are ignoring the basics of IoT systems, and taking the perspective which I alluded to in my post regarding "top down" development.
SDN protocols are the least part of the equation. It is the physical ability to provide a PAN that can operate with battery operated devices in an efficient manner.
How will you provide an IoT device equipped with a low power radio transmitter with the ability to communicate on a WAN?
You will also note that I said usually ZigBee, because that is what most people are familiar with who have done any research, and it was the original preferred ADRC comms protocol.
"Leading" means to be rational in your development process, and I can guarantee that Xped have been very diligent in their uptake of technology as the IoT world has matured.
