I'm based in the country but I have friends who have DSL data services. Seems the grade of service has a lot to do with the Telstra twisted pair cables and also whether or not there are already lots of DSL services running through them 'cos they crosstalk and interfere.
So you need to ask a neighbour who is using DSL.
The latest technologies have anti-crosstalk algorithms and are apparently much better in quality of service and hence lost packets.
