It looks as if the UK are on to this, I reckon they will use the Plutonium from Sellafield and mix it with Uranium to make fuel for this ABWR when it is built?
It certainly looks as if it was fast tracked somehow?

NIA welcomes justification of new nuclear reactor technology

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) has welcomed Parliament’s approval of the decision to justify the UK Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR).
The NIA, supported by Horizon Nuclear Power and Hitachi-GE, made the application to set out a high-level assessment of the benefits of the UK ABWR design against any potential disadvantages. As with the NIA’s justification application in 2008 for the AP1000 and EPR reactors, it concluded that the
security of supply and carbon reduction benefits of the UK ABWR far outweigh the limited potential for any radiological health detriments.
Keith Parker, Chief Executive, Nuclear Industry Association, said:
“This is a positive step in securing the UK’s long-term electricity supply and carbon reduction targets.
“The proposed site at Wylfa Newydd where the technology will first be used will help boost the local economy, providing skilled work and apprenticeships for local young people, boosting the construction sector through new build while also securing the supply of power to the community.”
