There are advantages to having a spec gold stocks over other stocks.
1) Their connection to the physical gold price is pretty much nonexistent. This is important because of the severity of the manipulation the US "Federal" Reserve has. It sends it's Primary Dealer, JP. Morgan to the futures markets to keep the price down because it's in competition to the USD.
2) The big miners have huge expenses. They have to produce X amount before they can start to make a profit.
3) Whether mines are underground or open pit, they are where they are and have to remain there. Not so with drill rigs.
4) There is no worry that holders of other stocks have like now for example. One night on Wall Street recently the DOW plunged over 1,000 points while CLZ went up 50% the next day our time and it wasn't due to an overbought situation. Looking at the chart you will see it's actually oversold in the longer term.
5) The market now likes companies that produce the commodities that go into EVs batteries but there is constant competition between them to have better quality than the others. Not so with gold companies.

The downside is they are not as secure as the big companies but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
