Phil-jacquelyn, a regular H/C poster, made a post some time ago that one of the main reasons for this SEN buyback was to give the directors more influence and power.

I always thought buybacks altered everyones position equally ( proportional to thier shareholding) but have since heard a few people say that those with the higher holding benefit to a larger degree, particularly when a vote is called.

I suppose a 10% increase to someone that has only .0005% of total shareholding is nothing but a 10% increase to someone with 10% shareholding could make a lot of difference at vote time or takeover offer negotiations time.
