The only problem with the AIM is that it is heavily manipulated by market makers and shorters. I will be opening a share account with the ANZ for my son when he turns 18 next month (also in NZ). I have a large portfolio of stocks on the AIM and an equally large holding in ASX listed companies. I have NEVER made any money on AIM stocks but luckily have more than made up for it with ASX listed stocks. I will be buying a few speculative ASX stocks for him. Good luck with your investing and please do remember that you are still very young and have lots of time in front of you - don't expect to become an instant millionaire but just be patient and even think about selling a portion of your shares as they increase in value, retaining the balance at a 'free carry' cost and invest the profits in a second company - hopefully keep doing this until you have built up a portfolio of stocks.
