The government wants to make property more affordable to the the have nots, but how can that be done without forcing down the value of existing stock and upsetting the haves? One solution is to build new properties of a size, quality and location undesirable to Asian immigrates, babyboomer upgraders and cashed up dinkies. For example building 1 bedroom fibro terrace houses on sub 100 sq m blocks in small regional towns at least an hours commute from the outer suburbs of Melbourne. Such properties should still be a profitable proposition for developers at $250k and an option for young ones to get on to the property ladder.
