Hang on - it's AFIC who compare their portfolio performance against the S&P 200 Accumulation Index. My reply was in relation to the comment "not reducing your money is just as important as growing it".

I'm suggesting that there are other, cheaper means that do the same thing. I never ONCE suggested that VAS will beat the index. That's impossible, but I can tell you now, that since the inception of VAS in 2009, it has outperformed AFIC. That's a simple fact and it's done it with lower fees. In fact, it matters not if it's VAS or IOZ et,al.

I hold a fair chunk of AFI - more than what I hold in an ASX 200/300 index fund. Over the years, I've been in the position whereby I can compare the pair and feel justified in my comments. Geez, I'd like to know what AFIC did with the $2 Capital return in 2021 when they held well over 7 million shares in Wesfarmers. Hopefully they didn't invest more of it into the NUIX IPO. You won't see an index fund wasting shareholders capital like that, gambling on IPO's.

Meanwhile, AFIC shareholders have seen an average rise in dividend payments of 1.42% over 14 years. See for yourself. And since that period dating back to 2009, the AFIC share price has appreciated by 59%. Meanwhile - XJO has appreciated by 84% and an index hugger like VAS has appreciated by 78%.

I understand why people invest in LIC's - I'm one of them. But they trade on sentiment and the portfolio Managers need to be held accountable. The original poster started this thread by being provocative because they have an agenda at hand. I'm not into their agenda, but I also do not believe that AFIC are looking after their shareholders by offering a false sense of security thanks to consistently smoothed out dividends. What a joke.
