Also interesting to note that once you hit 60 for men and 58 for women,
You can then go into transition to retirement.
That means you need to draw a min of 4% from your super per year but this year and 2021 that has been reduced to 2% because of Covid.
If you can keep working while drawing 2% that is still classified as transition whilst you wind down.
So you can keep working while drawing the min amount of funds from your super.
The best part, once you move into transition, all profits made by the superfund are no longer subject to tax.
For any of you that have reached these ages and have a reasonable superfund, you may want to check these facts.
There are limits to the funds that you transfer to super which are normally $25k with deduction but during covid there is a carry forward provision that allows you to pay in next years also, ( $50k ).
There is also a carry forward provision for the $100k with no tax deduction of an additional 2 years.
For example, before the 30th of June 2020, a couple could put $700k into super but no more until the carry forward expired.
2 years on the $25k and 3 years on the $100k each.
Great way to get the funds into an entity that protects your wealth and no tax if your in transition.
You also no longer have to think about the 1 year and 1 day rule of 50% discount in the Capital gains tax as you referred to Mel.
What"s in the superfund, ( if in transition ) can be sold without having to think about the liability.
This is a great way to offset any windfall like deg gains over the past 6 months.
