The real value of fuel cells and distributed generation in general is not in the money saved as an alternative to new power stations, but the money saved in not having to put in new transmission infrastructure for peak loads. Around 40% of your power bill is to pay for transmission infrastructure, and the peak load capacity of this infrastructure is only required on a few days each year.
