The soaring nickel price and rumours of a potential takeover have helped this Kambalda nickel miner to add 80 per cent to its share price in the past two months. While most analysts expect the nickel price to pull back eventually, the low level of global inventories makes an imminent correction unlikely, particularly as most nickel users are relatively able to absorb the increases. Any fall in nickel price or change in sentiment could seriously damage small Australian nickel miners like Sally Malay, as was seen in early November, when nickel fell more than 10 per cent. Sally Malay's share price has also responded to repeated speculation the firm is a takeover target. The latest rumours emerged late last week that a Canadian or fellow Australian party had been running the ruler over this successful junior.
