Ripple is not a product, it is a blockchain. Its like bitcoin however is not decentralised (though is open source). Verification takes place on Ripple nodes. So is essentially it is a monopoly system. Has a use i suppose in modernising banking infrastructure as that is ancient (eg CBA are testing it out on Intra-company settlements) but the battle between Ripple and Bitcoin is irrelevant to Airpocket. Airpocket could be using a Ripple backend system if it wants. It can use most efficient method possible. Ripple has some nuances which make it better for the already banked and we know that a lot of remittance is with unbanked people.
