Facebook bought whatsapp to control the social media communication market, same as why they bought Instagram, who's to say that the idea behind big can't blow up in the coming 2 - 3 years and google says well they did the hard work let's buy them out and incorporate them into our business.
Could be a huge offer from someone like Google or TripAdvisor if they continue with their current growth.
