you're probably quite correct - what a lot of people fail to understand is that brokers and other market makers do not themselves take many chances, they act for their clients and mainly make their money from commissions - like when options market makers offer puts/calls - they are not gambling which way a stock moves, they couldn't care less because they move prices according to market movements - they are purely commission plays.....
