how about Vale.....the "freight differential" between Brazilian and Australian ore was a big deal 2 years back because of the high price of oil and freight costs....how about Vale makes a move to get into Pilbara as insurance against such problems in future and cuts a deal with FMG to use their rail 110km away....long shot I know, just throwing it out there!
Plus Vale would know that BHP probably wouldn't entertain that possibility and would pay over the top to keep them out...so Vale makes a windfall profit on their little investment they made thus far and makes their rival pay more than they wanted to boot!
