Dow component Alcoa (AA) lit the torch after the close in less-than-spectacular fashion – the aluminum producer's quarterly profit was more than halved to $303 million, or 37 cents a share, while revenue slipped from $7.9 billion to $7.4 billion. Excluding items, earnings totaled 44 cents per share.
